Joint initiative of the gas TSOs Bulgartransgaz, Transgaz, FGSZ and Eustream

The gas transport operators from Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia propose an initiative for the transport of natural gas through the integrated gas transport networks. Bulgartransgaz, Transgaz, FGSZ and Eustream propose a joint action regarding the expansion of cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan by transporting additional quantities of natural gas through their existing networks. Gas transport operators will continue to work within the framework of the EU-Azerbaijan strategic cooperation agreement signed on July 18, 2022.

Based on the cooperation between the companies over the years and with the help of EU funds, the operators are convinced that such a project would provide a safe alternative route for the supply of gas in sufficiently large volumes. The companies point out that in a short period of time and with minimal improvements to existing infrastructure, the project could transport up to 5 billion m3/year of natural gas from Turkey and Greece to Eastern, Central Europe. and western via Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. This would allow European consumers to receive more quantities of natural gas from the pipelines of the Southern Gas Corridor.

Such a project could be implemented in the shortest possible time and at minimal costs, contributing significantly to ensuring liquidity in the European gas market. The initiative contributes to the implementation of the objectives and priorities set out in the Commission’s REPower EU plan.
