Playfair Mining prepares for summer drilling at RKV project, Norway
Vancouver, British Columbia–(Newsfile Corp. – June 9, 2022) – Playfair (TSXV: PLY) (FSE: P1J1) (OTC Pink: PLYFF) Drillers and drillers are currently at a standstill near the former Røstvangen mine where Playfair’s summer drilling program on its RKV project 100% owned in Norway will start shortly.
Playfair has notified and received approval from the Norwegian Directorate of Mines of its intention to drill up to 140 drill holes to test 6 targets in 4 separate areas. Playfair plans, where possible, to use existing trails to access target areas. One of the four areas is more difficult to access; therefore, a helicopter permit was obtained to move the drill in and out of the area. Once the drill rig is moved or airlifted to a target area, the portable drill rig will be transported between boreholes. It is expected that the use of a helicopter will be limited and only used at one target site. Initially, 33 surveys are planned. Additional drilling will be results driven.
Don Moore, CEO of Playfair, comments: “It’s great to have boots and drillers on the pitch again.
Norway focused on its oil wealth, which led to the neglect of the potential of the mining industry for half a century. This neglect has created the opportunity that Playfair has in our 282 km2 land set. We have acquired three district-wide opportunities which contain known mineral deposits of three types, specifically the Besshi-type VMS at RKV, the Bathurst-type VMS at Folldal and the igneous nickel/copper also at RKV. Significantly, there are seven former mines in production. The prospective area for each of these deposit types is district-wide and has been little explored over the past 50 years.
The strong nickel market and the drilled Vakkerlien nickel/copper deposit add another layer of significant potential to Playfair’s story.”
Playfair uses a drill that can be disassembled to move between drill holes. Although lightweight, the rig is capable of drilling up to 150m deep using BQ size rods (36.5mm or 1.437 inch core diameter) and up to 100m deep using NQ size (47.8 mm or 1.872 inch core diameter).
The portable drill team is supervised by Canadian drillers, No Limit Diamond Drilling. The local “Muskelgutta” (Muscle Guys) will once again take on the challenge of moving the portable drill. The support of the local community is greatly appreciated.
Promin AS, a Trondheim-based consultancy with extensive experience in the Norwegian mining industry, provides logistical support and experienced geologists. Helge Rushfeldt will again participate in the start-up of the drilling program. Kjell Nilsen, one of Norway’s most experienced field geologists who discovered Nussir, Norway’s largest known copper deposit, and Jonas Dombrowski will directly supervise the drilling, logging and analysis.
In Norway, through Playfair’s wholly owned subsidiary, Playfair Mining Norway AS, operations have been streamlined. Over the past 12 months, relationships have been developed with suppliers and workers within the local community and throughout Norway as a whole. Reidar Gaupås and Norvall Thormodsæter, Directors of Playfair Norway, along with CEO Donald Moore, continuously speak to all levels of government in Norway to publicize Playfair’s current and future exploration plans.
The overall management and execution of Playfair’s RKV drilling program is provided by Ronacher McKenzie Geoscience Inc., a group of independent consultants, who, as part of their oversight, will ensure that quality assurance/control protocols (QA/QC) are in place. RMG follows the best practices of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
