Solon urges DOE to lift suspension of Recto Bank drilling activities

Representative of the House Strategic Intelligence Committee Chairman Johnny Pimentel called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to lift the suspension of oil and gas drilling activities in Recto Bank, also known as Reed Table mount.

“The DOE has postponed drilling activities in deference to the negotiations. Now that the talks are over, the department should withdraw its suspension order,” Surigao del Sur solon. said Pimentel on Sunday, June 26.

In its statement, Pimentel cited the DOE’s suspension of private operators’ WPS exploration activities from service contracts (SC) 72 and SC 75 that took effect last April following Chinese harassment.

“This way, private parties contracted by the Philippine government to develop the Sampaguita offshore gas discovery at Recto Bank can continue their drilling activities,” he said.

Pimentel has previously expressed support for deepwater drilling operations by Filipino drilling contractors in the Sampaguita gas fields.
